Single: "Never Gonna Pay the Rent"
VÖ: 01.04.2022
Label: Moerdermusic

Zu „Never Gonna Pay the Rent” erklärt Anna Friedberg:
"Everything started in the shower of Room number 8 at the famous Joshua Tree Inn. I couldn’t sleep that night because I was scared that Gram Parsons’ ghost might still be hovering above my bed so I had a shower in the middle of the night and that was when I first had the vision of the sound for my new band Friedberg. I started to write 2 songs that night, which should later become our first 2 singles Boom and Go Wild. The Friedberg story continued in the same desert on my return trip there the following year, when a friend and I revisited some places of the Beat Poets on a road trip and ended up in Joshua Tree again. My friend was particularly frustrating on this trip, so I decided to slip into his mindset and wrote "Never Gonna Pay the Rent“ (through his lens of the world).”
“But the words that came out of my mouth were not only his words but seemed to be the words of a whole generation. A lonely, sad and unempathetic world, where nobody is committing to anything. A world of hyper-individualism and narcissism, where we are all just spinning around ourselves and a world where ‘the other’ slowly disappears. In a way this song is my attempt to get out of this toxic skin (even if it doesn’t quite work out just yet within my song). I hope it can be an anthem toward a route of togetherness rather than individualism."
