Charli Adams setzt sich in der neuen Single „Cheer Captain" mit ihrer religiösen Erziehung auseinander und kündigt ihre Debüt-LP „Bullseye" an, die am 16. Juli über Color Study (Haux) erscheint.
Den Titel „Bullseye“ verlieh ihr Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) beim Dartspielen in einer Spelunke in Nashville, produziert wurde das Album von Dan Grech (Lana Del Rey) und Brian Kierulf (Lady Gaga), gemischt von Patrick Dillett (St. Vincent). Auf dem Album wird auch ein wunderbares Featuring von Novo Amor zu hören sein.
Charli wuchs in einem sehr toxischen, konservativen Umfeld auf, aus dem sie erst jüngst ausbrach. Mit der Single „Cheer Captain“ schließt sie endgültig mit ihrer Zeit als Cheerleaderin und Gottesdienst-Leiterin, in der die Familie über alles stand, ab. „Cheer Captain is a resentful and regretful song about struggling with a saviour complex as a serial people pleaser”, so die junge Songwriterin. “I desperately wanted to be everything for everyone so I became a customizable human being that often went against everything I actually am. It’s always felt like the thesis of this project as I touch on my relationship with religion, my parents, and men." Und weiter: „I think it’s safe to say I was struggling with my identity, in fact I really hated it all so a year later, I started school online and moved to Nashville for music."
